Motorcycle
safety is practiced by many riders during the regular riding season, while
motorcycles and safety are often put on the back burner during the cold winter
months. Here in Alabama we are usually blessed with many warm weather riding months,
and sporadic warm days throughout the winter. These sudden warm days are often
responsible for many riders overlooking normal safety routines. I have been
guilty of this as well.
Whether you
ride a Honda or a Harley Davidson, even if you don’t check anything else before
you hop on your bike for a wintertime ride, please check your tires. Tires very
often leak down during the colder months. Sometimes to dangerously low levels.
Checking your air pressure takes very, little time. Not only could this save
the life of your tires but your life as well.
Another thing
you should check is all your lights. Properly working lights make for a much
safer riding experience. Hand signals can be used in a pinch if a turn signal
goes out while riding. Headlights and taillights are a different matter. If you
cannot see or be seen, you are in a dangerous predicament.
Looking over
your bike before riding only take a few minutes, but it is time well spent. Fixing
the little things as you find them keeps them from becoming bigger things
later. Have a great day. Ride smart, ride safe, and I’ll see ya out on the
road.
